Announcing Google Maps Navigation for Android 2.0

Official Google Mobile Blog: Announcing Google Maps Navigation for Android 2.0
The first phone to have Google Maps Navigation and Android 2.0 is the Droid from Verizon. Google Maps Navigation is initially available in the United States. And like other Google Maps features, Navigation is free.
Here are seven features that are possible because Google Maps Navigation is connected to the Internet:

The most recent map and business data
When you use Google Maps Navigation, your phone automatically gets the most up-to-date maps and business listings from Google Maps — you never need to buy map upgrades or update your device. And this data is continuously improving, thanks to users who report maps issues and businesses who activate their listings with Google Local Business Center.

Search in plain English
Google Maps Navigation brings the speed, power and simplicity of Google search to your car. If you don't know the address you're looking for, don't worry. Simply enter the name of a business, a landmark or just about anything into the search box, and Google will find it for you. Then press "Navigate", and you're on your way.

Search by voice
Typing on a phone can be difficult, especially in the car, so with Google Maps Navigation, you can say your destination instead. Hold down the search button to activate voice search, then tell your phone what you want to do (like "Navigate to Pike Place in Seattle"), and navigation will start automatically.

Traffic view
Google Maps Navigation gets live traffic data over the Internet. A traffic indicator light in the corner of the screen glows green, yellow or red, depending on the current traffic conditions along your route. If there's a jam ahead of you, you'll know. To get more details, tap the light to zoom out to an aerial view showing traffic speeds and incidents ahead. And if the traffic doesn't look good, you can choose an alternate route.

Search along route
For those times when you're already on the road and need to find a business, Google Maps Navigation searches along your route to give you results that won't take you far from your path. You can search for a specific business by name or by type, or you can turn on popular layers, such as gas stations, restaurants or parking.

Satellite view
Google Maps Navigation uses the same satellite imagery as Google Maps on the desktop to help you get to your destination. Turn on the satellite layer for a high-resolution, 3D view of your upcoming route. Besides looking cool, satellite view can help you make sense of complicated maneuvers.

Street View
If you want to know what your next turn looks like, double-tap the map to zoom into Street View, which shows the turn as you'll see it, with your route overlaid. And since locating an address can sometimes be tricky, we'll show you a picture of your destination as you approach the end of your route, so you'll know exactly what to look for.

Use Google Voice with your existing number

Official Google Blog: Use Google Voice with your existing number
not everyone wants to switch to a new phone number, so it made sense for us to create a lighter version of Google Voice for people who are willing to trade some features for the ability to use their existing numbers.

We're excited to announce that you now have the choice to get Google Voice with your existing mobile number OR with a Google number.

Nifty will find its first support at the 4,900 level and the second support at the 4,750 level : Nirmal Bang

Castrol

Image via Wikipedia

You can’t attach value to certain things. Most of the so called research reports  available are useless. But we rate research news letter published by Nirmal Bang  as excellent. Their advices are prudent and timely. Samples are published below.

Over the next fortnight, the Nifty will find its first support at the 4,900 level and the second support at the 4,750 level. On the upper side, it has resistance at the 5,200 level. It will remain range-bound between these levels. Due to selling pressure by FIIs, traders should avoid taking positions on upper levels.

In the banking pack, the stocks of State Bank of India and Axis Bank are looking good. Sectorally speaking, the cement sector is looking weak and is best avoided. However, some individual stocks are looking good at their current levels and can be bought at declines for investment purposes.
Among them are SRF Ltd (LTP: Rs 206.60), Jindal
Saw Ltd (LTP: Rs 801.9), Aurobindo Pharma Ltd(LTP: Rs 822.10), Amara Raja Batteries Ltd (LTP:
Rs 158.15), Castrol India Ltd (LTP: Rs 575.35) andTorrent Power Ltd (LTP: Rs 306.15).

Buy Zydus Wellness : Good Long term pick

Rotating image of Optical Coherence Tomography...

    Image via Wikipedia

    BSE CODE : 531335

    Market Cap   734.95cr  * EPS (TTM) 8.70 * P/E  21.6

Strong brands in fast-growing niche segments: Zydus Wellness owns strong brands Nutralite (34% of turnover), Sugar Free (39% of turnover) and EverYuth (26% of turnover) that have literal dominance in their fast growing categories. While Nutralite has a market share of 75% in the margarine (a low-cholesterol butter substitute) market, its sales have doubled in the past three years, in line with the trend in the category. Similarly, both Sugar Free, with an 82% market share in the low-calorie sugar substitute space, and EverYuth, with its stronghold in the facial peel off, scrub and face wash categories of speciality skin care products, have grown at a CAGR of 25% over the same period.

At an inflexion point: Given the proliferation of the lifestyle diseases, mainly those related to heart and diabetes, and the increasing awareness regarding health and fitness, Zydus Wellness? product basket has the potential to sustain a high growth in the medium to long term.

Healthy return ratios and free cash flows: Zydus Wellness is a debt-free company with free cash of Rs72 crore on its books. It runs the business on advance collection terms from distributors and customers. This implies minimal working capital blockage and zero bad debt risk. Given the strong internal accruals, the company will not require any equity or debt financing to sustain its organic growth and will be able to pay good dividends on a recurring basis. Like most of the sound FMCG companies, Zydus Wellness has strong return ratios with its RoE and RoCE exceeding 40% and 60% respectively.

Attractive valuations: The stock is trading at 20.4x its FY2010E earnings and 15.7x its FY2011E earnings and appears attractively priced at these valuations, considering the company’s sound business proposition, strong financials and the prospect of sustainable high growth over the next few years.

New in Labs: Got the wrong Bob?

Official Gmail Blog: New in Labs: Got the wrong Bob?
When's the last time you got an email from a stranger asking, "Are you sure you meant to send this to me?" and promptly realized that you didn't? Sometimes these little mistakes are actually quite painful. Hate mail about your boss to your boss? Personal info to some random guy named Bob instead of Bob the HR rep? Doh!

"Got the wrong Bob?" is a new Labs feature aimed at sparing you this kind of embarrassment. Turn it on from the Labs tab under Gmail Settings, and based on the groups of people you email most often, Gmail will try to identify when you've accidentally included the wrong person — before it's too late.

If you normally email Bob Smith together with Tim and Angela, but this time you added Bob Jones instead, we'll warn you that it might be a mistake. Note that this only works if you're emailing more than two people at once.

While we were at it, we also changed the name of "Suggest more recipients" to "Don't forget Bob" — the two related Labs features just kind of went together better this way.

If you want to test "Got the wrong Bob?" out, try faking a mistake like this:
    1) Think of three people you often email together.
    2) Compose a message to two of them.
    3) Start typing the third member of the group (for help you can use one of the people we suggest in "Don't forget Bob"), but then auto-complete on the wrong name.

Pressmart Introduces 'ePortal' - ePublishing Solution

    :Image:IPhone_Release_-_Seattle_(keyboard) cro...

    Image via Wikipedia

Pressmart (www.pressmart.com) today announced the launch of a new SaaS, pay-as-you-go hosted Web CMS product ePortal (www.pressmart.com/eportal) to complement its suite of powerful ePublishing solutions.

Pressmart ePortal lets Publishers create and manage their news portals easily for a low monthly fee. Unlike a licensed product, it is an on demand service wherein Publishers simply choose the features they want and pay only for what is used. It offers a robust CMS, Web 2.0 interface, Cloud Hosting, Advanced Archiving, Content Caching, Web & Mobile delivery as well as add-ons such as Social Network, Classifieds, Analytics, Ads and Subscriptions.

"Online publishing is a dynamic space. Things change everyday. To choose the right product, a reliable vendor and to keep pace with new and emerging technologies can be stressful and complicated." Sanjiv Gupta, Founder and CEO of Pressmart, said.

ePortal is designed as a simple and intuitive service. Publishers simply sign up, choose their preferred modules and get started rapidly. Our aim is to ensure our customers remain ahead of the technology curve, with minimum investment." added Sanjiv.

What differentiates Pressmart is that it extends a host of monetization and reporting tools such as Paid Subscriptions, Ad Management, Analytics, and Search Engine Friendly Content to Publishers.

“Pressmart ePortal is built around the Publisher’s strategy. For example, if a Publisher finds 'Video' is en vogue, 'Classifieds' is a money-maker or 'iPhone' is a key delivery channel, they can simply choose the options and voila, in a matter of few hours they are up and running with a news portal." said Navneet Taori, Head of Product Strategy and Business Development, Pressmart.

Publishers simply drag and drop feature they need. There is no upfront cost, no learning curve and zero ROI risk. Navneet adds. For an enterprise to grow it is important to keep the audience engaged with constant innovation and new customer centric features. Our goal is to continuously innovate and develop ePortal into a natural destination for online publishing." Sanjiv added.

One of the early adopters, a beta customer of Pressmart ePortal, Paul Luckman, Publisher and CEO of The Portugal News, the largest English-language Weekly Newspaper in Portugal said “It’s a much-needed, much-awaited service and I highly recommend it to Publishers who believe they are in the business of content and audience development and not Information Technology.”

While October is to many a month of candy and costumes, it also happens to be National Cyber Security Awareness Month in the U.S. In that spirit, we thought we'd take a minute to look at a few different things you can do to make sure both your content and account are secure on Blogger.

    Third Party Code

Adding site counters, templates, and other third-party code to your blog can be a great way to add some flare to your content, but can also leave your blog vulnerable to malicious activity if you aren't familiar with its source.

Over the years we've seen a number of third party scripts disguise themselves as helpful add-ons, when in fact they are performing a malicious operation behind the scenes. For example, a site counter widget may indeed be providing your blog with helpful tracking data, but at the same time may also be discreetly sending that information to advertisers for the purpose of collecting the online habits of your readers. A blog template you downloaded from a third party site might include pop-up ads or links to dangerous sites that install malware on visitor's computers.

The good news though is that most of the add-ons you will run across are perfectly legitimate. To protect yourself from the small minority of add-ons that are nefarious we've put together a few tips to keep in mind when adding third party code to your blog:

Take a moment to review the code and look for anything that seems out of place. For example, if you are adding a weather gadget to your blog and in the code notice that there are links pointing to unrelated sites, take that as a red flag and keep searching for another weather gadget.

Before saving new template code, always preview first. Malicious template designers may sometimes include pop-ups or other unexpected ads in the template code, which will usually be revealed with a quick preview. If anything unexpected shows up in the preview, go ahead and discard the new code by clicking Clear Edits.

Backup your template! Whenever making significant changes to your blog's template, it's always a good idea to backup your content beforehand just in case you need to reverse changes.

You can easily do this from the Layout | Edit HTML tab by clicking the Download Full Template link and saving the .XML file to your hard drive. You'll then be able to revert back to this downloaded version by clicking the Upload button, also right under the Layout | Edit HTML tab.

Look first to 'trusted' code repositories for a new template or widget. There are probably thousands of places across the web where you can find widget and template code, but it may be helpful to first check out some of the more widely known and trusted sources.

    Permissions

Finally we thought it's worth touching on another security area which has proven problematic for some bloggers in the past, and that is your blog's Permissions settings.

Almost every day our support team receives reports from users who've been locked out of their own blog, as the result of giving admin privileges to an unfamiliar blogger. Remember, you can always add more authors to your blog, but only extend admin privileges if you absolutely trust the person.

Bonuses on LIC policies received after March,2011 are taxable: Revenue Secy

Revenue Secretary PV Bhide today indicated that bonus amounts received on maturity of LIC policies will be liable to tax. "The broad principle is whatever has accrued by March 31 will remain with you as benefit. But that does not apply to bonuses paid after that."

This would lower the yield of all insurance policies maturing after March,2011.

    1. You accidentally enter your password on the microwave.
2 You haven't played solitaire with real cards in years.
    3. You have a list of 15 phone numbers to reach your family of 3.
    4. You e-mail the person who works at the desk next to you.
    5. Your reason for not staying in touch with friends and family is that they don't have e-mail addresses.
    6. You pull up in your own driveway and use your cell phone to see if anyone is home to help you carry in the groceries.
    7. Every commercial on television has a web site at the bottom of the screen.
    8. Leaving the house without your cell phone, which you didn't have the first 20 or 30 (or 60) years of your life, is now a cause for panic and you turn around to go and get it.
    10. You get up in the morning and go on line before getting your coffee.

Infosys Technologies Ltd (Infosys) : Quarterly Result Update

    Infosys Bangalore Campus

    Image via Wikipedia

Infosys Technologies Ltd (Infosys) Q2 FY10 result was above its guidance. Infosys reported EPS of Rs.26.83 in Q2 FY10 which was significantly higher than its guidance of Rs23.67-24.09 and also beat the market expectations.
Revenues increased 2.1% QoQ in Rupee terms and 2.9% QoQ in dollar term signalling sign of recovery in the demand.
EBITDA margin improved to 34.6% (+47 bps QoQ) driven by strong performance at the top line. However, net margin declined 33 bps QoQ to 27.6% in Q2 FY10 on account of lower other income which declined 12.3% QoQ during the quarter. Other income declined due to lower interest income on deposits with
    banks and other institutions.

At current price of Rs.2211 Infosys is trading at PE multiple of 22.1 for FY10E estimated EPS of Rs.100, which we believe Infosys is fairly valued at current price levels. However, we can see a strong upside going forward if the demand environment recovers significantly and rupee depreciates against the US dollar.

Joke of the Day : US President Barack Obama has been awarded the Nobel Peace Prize

    Nobel Prize Illustration

Image by Howdy, I'm H. Michael Karshis via Flickr

US President Barack Obama has been awarded the Nobel Peace Prize for "his extraordinary efforts to strengthen international diplomacy and cooperation between peoples" as per the Nobel committee. The first black US President had won his electoral votes last year on the plans of withdrawing US troops from Iraq by 2011 while increasing focus on an eight-year conflict in Afghanistan. Obama is the third sitting US President to be awarded the prize, following Theodore Roosevelt in 1906 and Woodrow Wilson in 1919 and Jimmy Carter in 2002.

We congratulate the Nobel Prize Committee for not choosing Mr.Obama in any other categories. We at investchips, expected the Committee would choose Mr.Obama as winner in multiple categories including Economics, Medicine and Literature for inventing a slogan “we can change” and giving HOPE to everybody that too freely.

We don’t want to hurt the feelings of other really worthy Nobel winners and their family. We strongly believe that Mr. Obama has achieved worthwhile to make him eligible for Golden Raspberry Awards , nothing more.

God Bless the Nobel Peace committee.  Long Live Obama.

    Accumulate ITC and Hindustan Unilever

    Hindustan Unilever Limited

    Image via Wikipedia

For the past one week or so, the delivery volume of ITC and Hindustan Unilever was unusually very high. Charts indicate positive momentum. Strong buy for medium term.

Our call on Indian telecom companies proved to be correct. Market slaughtered these companies. But today a leaked information may arrest the further fall. Soon we may receive buy calls from analysts. But in short to medium term, we are very negative on Indian telecom players.

We could not comprehend why Citi Group is slowly selling it’s stake in Polaris. Though we are positive on both Polaris and 3iInfotech, Management of Polaris should share it’s view and likely implication of this stake sale.

RCOM launches ‘Simply Reliance Plan’ for all services

    To All My Friends - I Won't Have a Cell Phone ...

Image by Old Shoe Woman via Flickr

Reliance Communications (RCom) today unveiled a new tariff structure CALLED AS “SIMPLY RELIANCE” offering a flat 50 paise per minute tariff for conventional services including local, STD, local SMS, international SMS, incoming roaming and outgoing roaming.

The offer is available over the GSM as well as CDMA platform and covers prepaid as well as postpaid subscribers in all circles( entire India) . The plan is valid for all 24 hours and includes calls made to other networks as well. For prepaid subscribers the plan is available without any additional monthly rental. Existing and new subscribers need to purchase one time special tariff voucher priced at Rs 48 to avail this plan. The voucher is valid for lifetime. For postpaid subscribers, the new tariff is available for monthly subscription fee of Rs.99.

Good scheme for existing reliance pre paid subscribers . But past history of reliance inhibit us to make a switch. Risk takers can buy. We don’t understand the reason why post paid customers should pay a monthly rental of Rs.99.

AdSense for Mobile optimized for high-end phones

Official Google Blog: AdSense for Mobile optimized for high-end phones: "Today, we're excited to announce a new feature for our AdSense mobile publishers that enables them to serve text and image ads on their sites — specifically on these high-end smartphones."

As more and more Netizens are using their mobile to access web, Google Adsense now introduced tools to serve text and image advertisements optimized for high end smart phones.

Because these devices offer a browsing experience that is similar to desktop computers, advertising on smartphones is a natural extension for any AdWords campaign. However, it's not always been easy for advertisers to reach people on smartphones. That's why we're investing in new high-end mobile advertising products such as our search ad options for high-end phones and AdSense for mobile applications. We hope to make advertising on high-end mobile devices as intuitive, effective and user-friendly as our existing AdWords tools.

Today, we're excited to announce a new feature for our AdSense mobile publishers that enables them to serve text and image ads on their sites — specifically on these high-end smartphones. This helps mobile publishers earn revenue and fund more mobile-specific sites and web content.

New features like this help to nurture the smartphone ecosystem by encouraging the creation of more mobile content and by helping advertisers to grow their businesses by reaching new audiences. Our users' experience is also improved, with increasingly relevant and device-optimized mobile ads that load faster and fit better on small screens.

Long term investors should exit from Telecom stocks

This driver is using two phones at once

    Image via Wikipedia

Indian Telecom sector seems to be following the foot steps of India Reality counterparts. Things are moving very fast and all indicators points impending cannibalism. First time in the history of Indian Telecom sector, ARU (Average Revenue per User) falls below Rs.200. Voice services are no longer remunerative. Number portability would put more pressure on profitability on existing players. 3G services may not see the day light in the near future. Raja may not be the King in this time. TRAI may advice all the players to offer “ per second billing” to it’s customers. This alone shave 20% of voice call profitability. This time lobbying may not help one or two companies alone or rescue laggards.

We advice long-term investors  to exit Indian Telecom stocks including Bharathi and RCOM. Difficult times ahead.
